Morgan EG House Blend Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece

Many years ago, during a slow day in the Morgan Mouthpiece Company workshop, Erik Greiffenhagen grabbed a scrap piece of rod rubber and set out to make a mouthpiece by hand.  His idea was to make a powerful mouthpiece with a darker core tone…an “Otto Link on steroids”.  After a lot of sanding, filing, and adjusting, he created a masterpiece.  His efforts created a versatile, powerful mouthpiece with a full-bodied tone.

A few years later, this mouthpiece was put into production by the Mouthpiece Cafe Company and was called the “House Blend” Model.  The House Blend Model quickly became a very popular mouthpiece; however, the Mouthpiece Cafe Company ended business operations around 2021.

As the designer of this mouthpiece, Erik wanted to get it back into production.  The Morgan Mouthpiece Company is now producing Erik’s “House Blend” Model Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece.

Since the production process of the two companies are different, there are a couple noticeable differences between the Morgan and Mouthpiece Cafe versions of the mouthpiece:

Mouthpiece Cafe molded mouthpieces with resin.  The Morgan Mouthpiece Company is using the finest rod rubber available for production.  The original piece that Erik made by hand was made of rod rubber so that is what the Morgan Company will use for this model.

When Erik made the original piece, it was completely made by hand.  As a result the taper of the body was a bit steep and not a lot of ligatures worked well with it.  Since the Mouthpiece Cafe molds were made directly from the original, the Mouthpiece Cafe pieces had the same steep body taper.  The Morgan version of the House Blend normalizes the body taper so more ligatures work well.
